Are you a U.S. citizen residing in Finland with a an electrical / ICT /physics-related  degree? If so, we invite you to apply for a U.S. Patent Agent Trainee position in our dynamic US Team.

Uniquely, U.S. citizens may qualify for and practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) while residing outside the U.S. Thus, in 2010, Laine IP established its own internal U.S Team at Laine IP with the mission of delivering high quality U.S. IP services to the firm’s clients from Finland. The US Team has been continuously operating since and recently secured its 550th U.S. Patent on behalf of the firm’s clients.

You are the person we are looking for, if:

  • You are a U.S. Citizen and already reside in Finland;
  • You have a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in communications, digital systems, automation engineering, electrical engineering, signal processing and data sciences, electronics, physics, computer engineering, or the like; Possess key traits, such as attention to detail, rapid learning capabilities, robust intellectual curiosity, and excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Adapt well to feedback, and enjoy intellectual challenges, as well as learning on a daily basis.

The U.S. Patent Agent Trainee position is a paid full-time position during which you will have the opportunity to learn the profession via independent work, self-study, and tutoring. No prior experience in intellectual property is required. However, you should have a degree in one of the above areas. Fluency in English is required. Fluency in Finnish is advantageous, though not mandatory.

Your Role and Growth Opportunities:

This position provides a great opportunity to embark on a new and unique career where you will regularly work in close co-operation with some of the world’s most innovative companies to protect their inventions. In addition, as a U.S. Patent Agent Trainee, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of the U.S. Patent system by assisting in the preparation of U.S. patent applications, by assisting in the drafting of responses to Office Actions issued by the USPTO, and by filing relevant documents. Further, you will prepare for the USPTO qualifying examination to become a registered U.S. Patent Agent.
